So... there we were...
Every good story starts this way - ours is no exception. Given the state of the local economy in Donnelly, ID (Search for it in the New York Times) where even the mayor can't find a job, we were in a precarious position. Colin, unemployed. Me, hanging on to my job for dear life. Elaina, doing very important baby work. One morning I woke up, clearly not in my right mind, and said "Honey, what if we were to sell the work truck and buy the VW Van that you have been talking about since the day I met you" I kid you not - he jumped out of bed and started the search for his dream machine right away.
April came around and he had found it... In midle of no where Texas! So he flew out to meet a complete stranger in an "OMG the Sky is falling" thunderstorm and bought his life long dream... He drove it all the way back to Idaho, stopping at junk yards along the way. 3 days later he arrived safely home with our "Brown Palace"
All summer long her has done nothing but research and work on the "B.P." and essentially learning to be a mechanic with no tools. I won't bore you with the details - and honestly, I couldn't tell you if I tried - I think he has his own blog out there with the details (I'll find out), but I swear - with the time he spent researching, I would have sworn he had reached the end of the internet. Apparently there is a huge community of VW Van lovers (AKA: "Suckers") So with countless hours in the garage for the last 4 months, the BP is ready for its maiden voyage.
We leave Sunday for the Oregon Coast for 8 blissful days with a 1985 Vanagon and a 1 year old baby girl. I will be posting updates along the way... this should be an adventure!
